SIOUX CENTER — The Class 2A state qualifying meet hosted by Unity Christian on Thursday has normally been held at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City, but runners and teams found themselves competing on the Dordt College campus course instead.
Despite the change the finish of 79 girls and 96 boys set to put their best efforts on display. Ridge View’s top runner senior Addy Tesch also posted the highest individual place finish, winding up eighth place overall with a 20:17.93 clocking on the 5,000 meter course.
Cherokee’s top runner-up and showing was also a senior Grace Woodall. Woodall finished ninth place with a 20:19.81 time.
Neither school could match the team performances of third-ranked Treynor, sixth-ranked Unity Christian or ninth-ranked Forest City. The Cardinals from Treynor finished as champion with a team tally of 44. Unity Christian was runner-up with 48, and Forest City was third with 70 points.
Ridge View and Cherokee neither program ranked, settled for fourth and fifth place respectively with 91 and 121 points.
Individually on the girls side Unity Christian’s sixth-ranked Katie Young won gold with a 18:46.25 clocking. Tenth-ranked Kambrie Dekker of Unity Christian finished runner-up with a 18:59.16 time.

Forest City boys wins team crown, Ten Napel of Western Christian wins individual gold, Cherokee stubs toe, Ridge View’s Hanson qualifies for state
Eighth-ranked Ian Ten Napel of Western Christian in 16:25.02 finished first individually. Tenth-ranked Jace Hungerford of Spirit Lake in 16:28.70 finished runner-up.
It was a three team race for gold — Forest City (56), Unity Christian (77), and Spirit Lake (89). The rankings proved pretty accurate was Forest City was third-ranked, Unity Christian was fifth ranked, and Spirit Lake was seventh-ranked. There were no other teams ranked amongst the 13 schools represented.
While senior Odin Hanson advanced to state with a time of 17:06.89, he was the lone Raptors runner under the 18-minute mark. Team wise Risge View finished seventh with a 197 team score.
For Braves fans from Cherokee some established/set expectations weren’t met in the meet. Cherokee failed to advance anyone individually and the found themselves ninth place (223). The Braves finished ahead of only George-Little Rock/CL (225), MVAOCOU (234), Treynor (358), and KP-WC-RV (363).
The highest showing by a Braves runner came from freshman Danny Leyva Cedeno with an effort of 18:18.76 over the 5,000 meter course.
