CHEROKEE — When it comes to postseason volleyball play, Eagle Grove and Cherokee have become familiar opponents. Tuesday evening marked the third consecutive year the two schools have faced one another in postseason play — all matches in Cherokee.

Tuesday results was a three set sweep of the Eagles for the Braves (25-10, 25-6, 25-8).

The first set had Eagle Grove score the matches first point. Cherokee would then build a 10-point (14-4) lead and expanded its biggest lead to 14 points (22-8) with an 7-0 run. The first set came to a close with a powerful Deidra Doeden kill.

Eagle Grove led 1-0 in the second set. The Braves built their first double-digit lead at 16-6 part of a Braves 11-0 run to end the second set.

Junior Katelyn Fox ended the second set at the service line for Cherokee, and was still serving when the Braves reeled off 11 unanswered points to start the third set. Cherokee ended the third set with an 8-0 run and Emma Ohlendorf kill.

The victory sends the Iowa Grandstand Sports eighth-ranked Braves into the Class 3A semifinals on Thursday (tonight) at 7 p.m. in Cherokee against Algona (22-5).

Ridge View drops sixth straight match to conclude season

SAC CITY — Ridge View was stumbling into the Class 2A Region 7 quarterfinal on a five match losing streak. They began the 2025 season struggling winning just one of six matches. They conclude the season on Wednesday with a 3-2 (25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 24-26, 14-16) def eat at the hands of East Sac County.

The setback is the third of the 2025 season to East Sac County for Ridge View. The lost at the Ridge View Classic (Sept. 6) 2-1 (25-19, 20-25, 14-16), and the Master Blaster Tournament at South Central Calhoun, East Sac County won 2-0 (21-19, 21-12).

Experience was pivotal for the East Sac County victory over Ridge View. Seniors Jordin Carroll, Katelyn Schmitt, Emerson Ludwig, Sarah Bontrager, and junior Tori Hauser led the way for the Raiders.

It was the first season since 2010 the Raptors finished with an overall match record under .500.

MMCRU nine match win streak snapped in 2A quarterfinals

ROCK RAPIDS — MMCRU came into the volleyball playoffs riding a nine match win streak to end the regular season. Their first opponent in Class 2A regional play was a tough road test at Central Lyon.

This was the first meeting between the two schools since a Central Lyon 3-0 win in 2024. Central Lyon also won the only other meeting in 2023 3-0.

MMCRU shot itself in the foot committing 29 attack errors (-.009 efficiency), one more than total number of kills 28. Peyton Busch led the Royals with 10 kills, Chloe Alesch and Brielle Lux each tallied six kills.

Busch also led MMCRU in digs with 12. Three Royals players had perfect performances at the service line — Sadie Youde 11-11 (ace), Raya Staab 8-8 (ace), and Busch 6-6. MMCRU finished with a 90.6 percent success rate serving in the match.

Central Lyon (16-11) advances to the regional semifinal against Emmetsburg. They were led by juniors’ Ellianna Hoefert (6’2″) with 13 kills and Emory Lincecum (5’9″) with 10 kills.

MMCRU’s season ends at 15-8, the most wins by a Royals team since their total of 16 match wins in 2021.
