FORT DODGE — After qualifying from the Unity Christian district/regional in Class 2A, three area runners senior Grace Woodall of Cherokee, and senior Addy Tesch and senior Odin Hanson of Ridge View took to the state meet course at Kennedy Park on Friday.

Woodall on her ninth place showing in the regional meet, finished with a personal-best and Top-20 place finish Friday morning with a time of 20:16.0, earning her 20th place out of 100 runners. Woodall came into the state meet ranked 30th in Class 2A Week 10 (final) rankings by the (IATC) Iowa Track Coaches Association.

Tesch crossed the finish in 46th place with a 20:56.1 time in the 5,000 meter event. Tesch came into the state meet ranked 28th in Class 2A.

Van Meter junior Laura Sterk was top-ranked in the final rankings for Class 2A, but finished a distant 16th place on Friday with a 20:00.5 time.

Winning the Class 2A 5,000 meter event was Albia senior McKenna Montgomery (second-ranked) with a 18:20.70 clocking. Runner-up was Monticello freshman and fourth-ranked Mary Grace Lyons with a 18:55.2 showing.

Treynor locked up the team title as the Cardinals tallied a first place score of 121. Finishing in second and third place, respectively were Waukon (136) and Unity Christian (138). Treynor was third ranked in the final poll, Unity Christian was sixth, and Waukon seventh.

2A boys 5,000 meters

Ridge View’s Hanson wound up finishing in 49th place with a 17:33.4 clocking on Friday. Hanson was unranked in the final 2A IATC poll.

Winning Friday’s 2A boy’s event was top-ranked Emerson Vokes, senior from Grundy Center, blazing the course with a 15:42.0 winning time. Runner-up to Vokes was second-ranked Jesse Gomez, sophomore from Denver with a 16:18.5 time across the finish line.

On the team side it was top-ranked Chariton claiming gold with a sparking team tally of 42 points, a margin of 68 points over third-ranked Forest City (110), and 88 points over fourth-ranked Oelwein (130).
