The Ridge View girls basketball team off to a 1-1 start to its season took to the road for a non-conference matchup with Alta-Aurelia on Thursday. Alta-Aurelia (0-1) came into the affair in search of that elusive first win.

Neither team took control of the game remaining close throughout four quarters. The guest Raptors received a bit of good fortune to come up with the 56-54 win at the end of regulation.

Ridge View was out shot 46.8 percent to 36.5 percent from the floor. The Raptors put up 16 more shots, having multiple opportunties with Alta-Aurelia turning the ball over 23 times.

Ridge View didn’t have the answer defensively to prevent Warriors’ senior Peyton Kies for having quite a night for herself. She finished with a game-best 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including three treys.

Kies performance wasn’t complete without a double-doublem adding 10 rebounds. Kies also added four assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Kies senior teammate Hayden Berkland just missed her bid for a double-double finishing with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Ridge View was out rebounded 35-26, finishing a minus -6 in rebound margin.

Ridge View led 13-12 after one quarter and by three points (30-27) at halftime. The Raptors went into the fourth quarter with a 40-37 lead.

Offensively for Ridge View, Jayna Aschinger and Shea Rapp led the Raptors efforts with 16 and 13 points respectively. The Raptors went into the game without seniors’ Alyssa Biede and Reese Hawthorne.

The Ridge View win makes it eight straight against Alta-Aurelia since a Warriors win back on Dec. 1, 2014.

Boys contest at the 3-point ‘Brick House’

When shooters go cold its hard to win, and there was plenty of bricks on behalf of the Alta-Aurelia boys basketball team on Thursday against their guest Ridge View.

Alta-Aurelia was in the deep freeze throughout the night against the Raptors failing to score in double digits in any of the four quarters. Meanwhile, Ridge View had 13 different players score in a 30-point 68-30 win.

Ridge View dropped the hammer offensively from the onset and the host Warriors never recovered. Alta-Aurelia had an inability to take care of the basketball commiting 31 turnovers, which led to some transition points for the Raptors.

Ridge View scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters, leading 20-8 after one, and 40-15 at halftime. Ridge View flirted with the mercy rule in the third quarter coming up shy a few points as they led 52-22. Finally, the magical 35 point number was achieved in the fourth quarter to activate the continous clock.

Alta-Aurelia shot 23.8 percent (10-of-42) overall, including 3-of-13 (23.1%) from beyond the 3-point arch. The Warriors struggled at the foul line also finishing 7-of-17 (41.2%). Junior Austin Droegmiller led them in scoring with 10 points. Senior Braden Aronson posted a team-best eight rebounds for Alta-Aurelia.

Ridge View struggled with its 3-point shooting also. The Raptors were 4-of-19 (21.1%). Where Ridge View made up the difference was 22-of-41 (53.6%) shooting inside the 3-point arch. Carter Todd finished with a game-high 18 points to go along with six steals.

Adam Stephan paced the Raptors efforts on the boards with 10, leading Ridge View to a plus +11 margin (39-28) on the glass.
