Royals caught up in numbers game during mat opener; Raptors even dual record at 3-3 on season

SAC CITY — MMCRU found itself in its season opener on Thursday too few on numbers to match up with its opponents at the East Sac County quadrangular.

The Royals headed home in what amounted to a long bus ride with an 0-3 dual record. Host East Sac County went into its matchup with MMCRU turning out 11 wrestlers to the Royals eight. MMCRU was dealt a 53-24 loss.

Ridge View competed with a full squad of 14 wrestlers against MMCRU’s eight and took down the Royals 63-18. MMCRU went to battle in the nightcap against Westwood with nine wrestlers to the Rebels 14, and dealt a 54-30 setback.

Senior Parker Glassmaker who broke his fibula during the football season is wrestled one match and posted a win by fall in a time of 4:40 over Ridge View’s Lukas Bruns. Caben Olson also finished with a 1-0 match record for the Royals. Kaden Steffen went 2-0 and had a win by forfeit in what would have been his third match.

Mason Carver, Thomas McKinney, and Carter Astidias won two of their three matches for the Royals.

Raptors finish with 2-1 record, get back to .500 on season

SAC CITY — The Ridge View wrestling team took care of business in their first two duals of the East Sac County quadrangular on Thursday. The Raptors met their match against Westwood.

MMCRU fell to Ridge View to start things off 63-18. That improved the Raptors dual record to 2-2 on the young season. Three wins by fall — Kyler Crum (120), Raiden Bradley (132), and Kyson Turnquist ((285), a technical fall (Levi Else (165), and maj decision (Landyn Peterson 157) for Ridge View could be an indication of good things ahead this season. The Raptors also picked up six wins by forfeit.

Ridge View completely man handled the host Raiders 73-6. The only defeat suffered by the Raptors came at 190 by fall. Nine of the 12 matches wrestled in the dual were wins by fall for Ridge View.

It looked likely Ridge View was cruising through the quadrangular before running into a wall known as the Rebels of Westwood, who took down Ridge View 64-18.

The 2-1 dual finish on the evening leaves the Raptors with a 3-3 dual record on the season. Saturday Ridge View competed in the traditional format of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Tournament. They return to dual format on Tuesday (Dec. 9) hosting East Sac County, South Central Calhoun, and Estherville Lincoln Central in Holstein.
