After being named as one of three finalists for the 2025 Rimington Trophy earlier this week, Iowa football’s Logan Jones was named as the winner of the prestigious award presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding center through an announcement during the ESPN College Football Awards Show on Friday, Dec. 12.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy is chosen by the center who garners the most first-team votes on three All-America teams (Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, and Football Writers Association of America).
The 6-foot-3, 302-pounder from Council Bluffs, Iowa, is the anchor of the Hawkeyes’ dominant offensive line, which is also a Joe Moore Award finalist. The first-team All-Big Ten honoree and Outland Trophy finalist has started 50 career games and served as a game captain in all 12 games for the team this season.
Jones’ protection, along with the rest of the line, has helped quarterback Mark Gronowski have a record-breaking campaign, setting single-season records for rushing yards (491) and rushing touchdowns (15) by a quarterback.
In his run-game protection efforts, Jones has helped the Hawkeyes out-rush their opponents nine times, gain more than 200 yards in five games, and surrendered just 16 sacks in 2025.
“It is an absolute honor to be recognized as this year’s Rimington Trophy recipient. It’s humbling to join the great winners who came before me. I want to thank Coach Ferentz, my head coach; Coach Barnett, my position coach; and most of all, my teammates—especially my fellow offensive linemen. I would not be here without them,” Logan Jones said about winning the Rimington.
Iowa is now one of four schools to have multiple Rimington Trophy honorees, joining Ohio State, Michigan, and Alabama. Jones is the first Hawkeye to win the award since Tyler Linderbaum secured the honor in 2021, who sent his sincere congratulations to Jones later on Friday night.
“Having Logan as the anchor of our offensive line is a tremendous asset for our football team. He has worked tirelessly to become one of the nation’s best players. He is a leader on and off the field. He plays with a tenacity that sets the tone for the entire roster, and I am excited that he is being honored with the Rimington Trophy,” said head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Jones will be honored and formally presented the award at the Rimington Trophy banquet in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 24, 2026.
“Playing at the University of Iowa has been an honor, and representing this team has meant everything to me. This year has been a blast, and I’m grateful for one more opportunity with my brothers in Tampa. Go Hawks!” Jones added.
No. 23 Iowa (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) will face No. 14 Vanderbilt (10-2, 6-2 SEC) in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31 in Tampa, Florida. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT from Raymond James Stadium, with the game broadcast on ESPN.
