ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Drake women’s basketball losing streak continued on Saturday with a 70-50 loss on the road to St. Thomas.

The Bulldogs (1-8) have now lost eight straight games, last winning the season opener against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 3.

St. Thomas got out to a fast start and never looked back, taking a 23-10 lead into the second quarter. In the second frame, the Bulldogs were outscored 20-7 and went into the halftime break down 43-17. The Tommies led for over 38 minutes of the 40-minute contest, with Drake never really threatening after the second quarter.

Grace Knutson led Drake on the day with 16 points and 10 boards. Abbie Aalsma added 15 points and five rebounds and Maggie Taylor chipped in 11 points. The Bulldogs shot just 29.7% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc.

• Drake, which suffered its eighth straight loss, slipped to 1-8 this season.
• The 8-game losing streak is the longest at the school since Bulldogs lost eight games in a row during the 2006-07 season under coach Amy Stephens
• The Bulldogs have now posted a single digit scoring quarter in five of their nine games this season.

• St. Thomas out-rebound the Bulldogs by one, 42-41.
• The Tommies blocked seven Drake shots, matching Bulldog opponents’ season high.
• Grace Knutson led the Bulldogs with 16 points followed by Abbie Aalsma’s 15 and Maggie Taylor’s 11.
• Taylor posted her third double-double of the season, and second in as many games, with a team high 10 rebounds.
• Lexi Carlsen led Drake’s distribution efforts with a team high five assists.
• Anna Becker made a career best two blocks.
• St. Thomas’ win was its first over Drake in program history. The Dogs now lead the all-time series by a 2-1 margin.
