As Iowa football continues to bolster its future with the program’s 2025 ReliaQuest Bowl matchup looming on Dec. 31, the Hawkeyes have added a talented tight end to their 2027 class with four-star legacy Jaxx DeJean announcing his commitment on Sunday, Dec. 21.
The 6-foot-4 and 205-pound tight end stars for Odebolt–Arthur–Battle Creek–Ida Grove in Odebolt, Iowa, and is the younger brother of Hawkeyes legend and current Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean. Jaxx DeJean is currently rated as the No. 402 overall prospect in the 2027 class, as the No. 26 athlete, and as the No. 5 recruit in the state of Iowa, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Despite Iowa holding strong familial ties, DeJean held four other offers from Kansas State, Michigan, Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), and UNLV.
In his junior season for OABCIG, DeJean played snaps at wide receiver, tight end, quarterback, and defensive back, and the team went 6-4 and made the second round of Iowa’s 2A playoffs.
This season, he caught 36 passes for 461 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver/tight end, carrying the ball 27 times for 207 yards and three scores, and completed 14-of-21 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. DeJean also recorded 18.5 tackles and three interceptions on defense, while averaging 37.8 yards per punt and 10.8 yards per punt return.
While it’s unclear which position group Iowa intends to place the multifaceted prospect, the Hawkeyes may use DeJean in a similar role to his older brother.
