NEWELL — Ridge View’s girls basketball team was held to only four points in the first quarter and was already looking up at a double-digit deficit to Class 1A fourth-ranked Newell-Fonda on Monday. Thr Raptors ended equally on a sour note scoring only three fourth quarter points, and wound up getting run out of the gym 69-29.
The 29 points by Ridge View is the fewest points scored against an opponent this season.
The 40 point loss to Newell-Fonda is the worst margin of defeat for Ridge View in its last 15 games dating back to last season and the Western Valley Conference when they loss to Westwood 67-17.
Newell-Fonda became quickly too much to handle for Ridge View. The Raptors deficit grew throughout from 17 points (21-4) after one quarter, 32 points (48-16) at halftime, 33 points (59-26) at the conclusion of the third period. With 7:04 remaining in the game, Newell-Fonda activated the 35-point mercy rule and the continous clock the rmeiander of the game.
Ridge View’s offense struggled. Its two scoring leaders on the season Shea Rapp and Jayna Aschinger were held to a combined 11 points. Rapp averages right at 10 points per game and Jayna Aschinger right around 13 points per contest.
Two players who played fairly well were senior Zoey Aschinger who led the Raptors with eight points and freshman Olivia Feilmeier finished with seven points. Also, Feilmeier grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
The Raptors also struggled taking care of the basketball, as they finished with 23 turnovers. They shot only 27.6 percent (8-of-29) from the floor in the game, including 1-of-7 on three-point tries. At they foul line they struggled, converting only 12-of-26 (46.2%) of their free throws.
Jocee Walsh was one of three Newell-Fonda players in double figures scoring. The 6-foot- senior finished off a double-double with 10 rebounds, to go with three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Freshman Quinn Sievers came off the Mustangs bench and finished with 12 points. She also tallied a game-high five assists. Quinn SIevers added three rebounds and three steals, all coming off the Mustangs bench.
Newell-Fonda sophomore Ellie Sievers led all scorers with 14 points.

Ridge View (5-4) will look to keep its record above .500 when they travel to Logan-Magnolia (0-10) on Friday, Jan, 2, 2026. They will play only their third home game this season on Jan. 6 when they host a Class 2A ranked Sioux Central in Holstein.

Host Newell-Fonda provided little in the wayof opposition on Monday in the non-conference boys basketball matchup. Ridge View gave the host Mustangs a school lesson to remember in basketball, winning 77-42.
Notable was the fact Ridge View played a good portion of the game without their post presence in 6-foot-8 senior Adam Stephan, who was nursing an injury.
It was all about balance, good passing and finding the open man for Ridge View offensively. The Raptors turned a 17-5 (12 point) first quarter lead into a 23 point lead (38-15) at halftime. Ridge View maintained that margin, finishing the third quarter up 57-34 on Newell-Fonda.
The win was Wire-to-Wire for Ridge View that had their first double-digit lead at 15-5 with 1:05 remaining in ther first quarter. The Raptors’ Luke Braunschweig got the layup to go off glass. The first 20 point lead came with 2:09 left in the second quarter of a Kinnick Jensen basket. The final 1:17 of the fourth quarter was played with the continous clock.
Winners of four straight, Ridge View was led in scoring by Zach Kolpin with 13 points. Three other starters also found their way into double fogures with Jensen tallying 12 points, Carter Todd 11, and Drew Burk 10 points. Todd, a 6-foot-4 presence was just that on the glass as he finished with a game-high 11 rebounds. He also tied had three assists and led all players with three blocked shots.
Mustangs’ senior Jackson Hogrefe had eight of the team’s 15 first half points and finished second in scoring with 11 points. Atop the Mustangs leader board with 12 points was Jackson Bellcock.

Ridge View (7-1) begins the new year against arguably its stiffest challenger other than Cherokee. Class 1A ranked Woodbine (6-1) comes calling on the Raptors on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.
