AMES — Iowa State wrestling’s Kevin Dresser hit the century mark in dual wins as head coach on Jan. 23, leading a 42-0 dual victory over Northern Colorado at home.

Dresser moved to 100-34 all-time with the Cyclones in duals, with Iowa State winning all 10 bouts on the night. Of those 10 wins, six were in bonus-point fashion. The Cyclones won the marquee bout of the night at 133 pounds, with No. 3 Evan Frost taking down No. 9 Dominick Serrano in a 7-1 decision.

Former Northern Colorado wrestler turned Cyclone Stevo Poulin began the dual with a bang at 125, pinning Bryson Valdez in the first period to give Iowa State a 6-0 lead. Evan Frost looked tough against the reigning Big 12 champion and NCAA All-American at 133, getting second- and third-period takedowns to firmly take a win.

Anthony Echemendia went takedown-to-cut several times on his way to a 21-6 technical fall over Ramon Salazar at 141. Jacob Frost continued the rout, rolling KJ Evans in a 19-4 technical fall. Another former Northern Colorado wrestler in Vinny Zerban added a 18-3 technical fall win over Daishun Powe to give the Cyclones a 24-0 lead at intermission.

To close the dominant victory, Iowa State got wins from Connor Euton at 165 (19-7 major decision over Kilian Schultz) Aiden Riggins at 174 (3-1 decision over Murphy Menke), Isaac Dean at 184 (8-2 decision over Mahonri Rushton), CJ Carter in overtime at 197 (4-1 sudden victory over tyler Perry) and closed with a 21-6 technical fall from Yonger Bastida oat 285 over Enzo Cappabianca.

With that, Dresser got to win No. 100 in his ninth year with the Cyclones. Only Harold Nichols (454), Bobby Douglas (198) and Hugo Otopalik (159) have reached that mark with Iowa State. Including his stint as head coach at Virginia Tech, Dresser holds an all-time dual record of 259-85. He can extend on his win record next on Jan. 25, wrestling in his hometown of Humboldt, Iowa, vs. South Dakota State.

“I came back here to try and make a difference and get the staff in here that would try and make a difference here in Iowa State wrestling,” Dresser said after the win. “I think we’ve done that. We’ve got a long ways to go, but I love our staff and I love this team right now. If we can stay healthy down the stretch, this will be a good one.”
