CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Max Weisbrod’s 18 points helped Northern Iowa defeat Drake 86-62 on Sunday.
Weisbrod finished 6 of 12 from 3-point range for the Panthers (17-10, 9-7 Missouri Valley Conference). Will Hornseth also scored 18 points, going 6 of 7 and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Tristan Smith shot 5 of 8 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points.
Jalen Quinn led the way for the Bulldogs (12-16, 6-11) with 20 points. Drake also got 10 points from Eli Shetlar. Owen Larson also had nine points. The Bulldogs extended their losing streak to six in a row.
Northern Iowa took the lead with 9:02 remaining in the first half and did not trail again. Smith led the Panthers with eight points in the first half to help put them up 38-29 at the break. Northern Iowa pulled away with an 8-0 run in the second half to extend a 15-point lead to 23 points. The Panthers outscored Drake by 15 points in the final half, as Hornseth led the way with a team-high 16 second-half points.

UNI ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI improves to 54-35 all-time against Drake and 32-8 against the Bulldogs at home. The 24-point margin of victory is the Panthers’ largest win over Drake since the 2019-20 regular season finale, and fourth-largest under head coach Ben Jacobson.
- Northern Iowa has now held 13 of its last 16 opponents under 30% shooting from three-point range.
- UNI improves to 100-13 (.884) when scoring 80+ points under head coach Ben Jacobson, having won 18 of their last 19 games when doing so.
- Sunday’s game marked the first time the Panthers have scored 80+ points in three straight games since the final three games of the 2021-22 regular season (Missouri State, Indiana State, Loyola-Chicago).
- The Panthers have made at least one three-pointer in 174 consecutive games, a streak dating back to the 2020-21 season.
- UNI’s 62 points allowed to Drake on Sunday were tied for the third-fewest scored by the Bulldogs this season, as well as second-fewest in MVC play this year.
- Trey Campbell started his 123rd career game on Sunday, extending his streak to lead all active MVC players. Campbell has also started 90 consecutive contests.
- Campbell also became the eighth player in program history to make 200 career 3FGs (Matt Bohannon, AJ Green, Trae Berhow, Bowen Born, Ben Jacobson, Johnny Moran, Marc Sonnen).
- Campbell also surpassed 300 career assists with his eight assists on Sunday.
- Will Hornseth is 56 points away from scoring his 500th career point. Kyle Pock also surpassed 300 points in his career, while Ben Schwieger notched his 300th rebound in his UNI career.
DRAKE TEAM NOTES
—Drake, suffering its sixth straight loss, slipped to 12-16 overall including a 6-11 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.
—The Bulldogs’ road record fell to 4-6, including a 3-6 mark in MVC games.
—Drake used an 8-0 run to a 5-2 deficit into a 10-5 advantage for its largest lead of the game.
—Coach Eric Henderson utilized his fourth different starting lineup of the season inserting Jaehshon Thomas and Isaiah Carr into the starting five replacing Owen Larson and Jalen Quinn.
DRAKE PLAYER NOTES
—Senior transfer guard Jalen Quinn, enjoying his 15th 20-plus scoring game, led the Bulldogs with 20 points including 11 in the first half.
—Quinn, the leading scorer in the MVC, has scored 20 or more points in nine of his last 11 games.
—Quinn moved into No. 13 on the Drake single-season scoring list with 554 points, passing Melvin Mathis (1983-84, 536).
—Quinn shared team high rebound honors with senior transfer Isaiah Carr.
—Redshirt sophomore Eli Shetlar added 10 points, making two three-point baskets.
—Freshman Griffen Goodbary came off the bench scoring eight points for the second straight contest.
—Isaiah Carr, making just his second start of the season, collected two points, a team-high five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot.
—Senior Jaehshon Thomas, making his 12th start (first in last 14 games) had two points and three rebounds.
—Wilguens Jr. Exacte, who had started in 13 games, missed his 14th consecutive game because of a foot injury.
The Series
—Drake had a two-game winning streak against UNI snapped and trails in the all-time series, 53-36, including a 10-31 mark in games played in Cedar Falls.
