MARCUS — There is a reason for being the top-ranked team in Class 1A, The “Running Royals’ improved to 22-1 on the season with a definitive 85-30 victory in Class 1A, Substate 1 play on Monday evening.
The Royals have shot 52.1 percent, including 31.4 percent on 3-point attempts, and average 72 points per game offensively. Three senior have averaged double-foigure scoring this season — Kanden Bork 15.0, Wyatt Alesch 12.2, and Michael Schmillen 10.8.
Monday’s matchup against West Bend-Mallard saw MMCRU with a 30 point opening quarter, and 26 point second quarter, leading 56-29 at halftime. When all was said and done eight Royals had scored.
It was once of those ‘Nothing Gonna Stop Him Nights’ for Bork with a game-high 27 points on 13-of-16 shooting overall, including 1-of-2 on 3-point tries.
Four other Royals also scored double-digits. Brayson Mulder had 13 points off the bench, Schmillen 11, Eli Schlenger and Josh Peterson each with 10 points.
As a team, MMCRU shot 62.3 percent (38-of-61) overall from the floor, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) on 3-point tries.
West Bend-Mallard finishes its season with a 6-18 overall record.
