No. 9 Cherokee girls cake walk way to victory in 3A Region 8 Quarterfinal

CHEROKEE — The Class 3A No. 9 ranked Cherokee girls inched their way one step closer to the state tournament on Saturday, defeating Sheldon 65-33. It’s the ninth consecutive win for the Braves dating back to Jan. 20.

Addy Wolfswinkel scored a game-best 22 points for Cherokee on 5-of-11 shooting overall, including 4-of-8 from behind the 3-point arch. Deidra Doeden added another double-double adding 13 points and a game-best 13 rebounds.

Cherokee led the entire way, going up 16-3 at the end of one quarter, 31-12 at halftime, and 45-16 at the comnclusion of the third quarter. The Braves built their biggest lead with 2:30 remaining in the game of 33 points.

Taya Sudbeck led Sheldon with 12 points. The Orabe bow out of tournament play, ending their season with a 4-19 record

Cherokee (18-3 will host OABCIG on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The Falcons are 16-5 on the season and have dropped seven straight games to Cherokee.
