The Green Bay Packers are releasing offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move will save the Packers a little over $19.5 million on the salary cap in 2026.
Jenkins, a two-time Pro Bowler at guard, moved to center in 2025. The transition didn’t go smoothly, and a leg injury suffered in Week 9 ended his season. Jenkins hit the trifecta for a release candidate: Older (turns 31 in December), coming off a major injury and expensive (previously scheduled cap hit of $24.3 million in 2026).
The Packers might have looked into potential trade partners for Jenkins, but moving on was the only logical outcome entering this offseason.
The Packers also re-signed Sean Rhyan, who took over for Jenkins after his injury and now looks like the future of the center position in Green Bay. Rhyan’s new deal is for three seasons and is worth $33 million.
Jenkins, a second-round pick of the Packers in 2019, made Pro Bowls in 2020 and 2022. While elite at guard early in his career, his versatility made him invaluable in Green Bay. Jenkins will leave Green Bay having played 524 snaps at left tackle, 4,551 snaps at left guard, 906 snaps at center, two snaps at right guard and 374 snaps at right tackle.
Jenkins is the second member of the Packers’ 2019 draft class to depart on Monday. The Packers also agreed to trade 2019 first-round pick Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys.
