IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa senior Bennett Stirtz was named an honorable mention All-American by The Associated Press on Tuesday.
The Liberty, Missouri, native also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and second-team recognition from league coaches. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the AP and received All-Central District honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Stirtz ranks third in the Big Ten in scoring at 20.0 points per game and is averaging 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He is shooting 49.2% from the field, 37.6% from 3-point range and 84.5% from the free-throw line. He has recorded 18 games of 20 or more points, including three 30-point performances.
Through 33 games, Stirtz has scored 661 points, the seventh-highest single-season total in program history. He is two points shy of passing Andre Woolridge for sixth place and 15 points away from surpassing Roy Marble for a spot in the top five.
Stirtz reached double figures in 31 of Iowa’s 33 games. He was also an AP honorable mention All-American last season while playing at Drake.
