IOWA CITY — University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands announced Friday that former Hawkeye and five-time All-American Jacob Warner has joined the program’s coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Warner fills the position previously occupied by Bobby Telford.

“Jacob knows what it takes to compete at the highest level, both on and off the mat,” said Brands. “He represents everything Iowa wrestling stands for. His toughness, discipline and relentless work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our staff and our student-athletes.”

A native of Tolono, Illinois, Warner became just the third wrestler in program history to earn All-America honors five times. Competing at 197 pounds, he finished his collegiate career with a 97–28 overall record.

Warner was the 2022 NCAA runner-up and helped lead Iowa to the 2021 NCAA team championship, along with Big Ten Conference team titles in 2020 and 2021.

Warner was a five-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a three-time NWCA Academic All-America Team member. He is a two-time graduate of the University of Iowa, earning his bachelor’s degree in finance in 2021 and a master of science in business analytics in 2023.

Prior to his collegiate career, Warner was a three-time Illinois high school state champion.
