The Rush With Travis and Ross – Iowa State Adds Women’s Wrestling – Friday, April 17

The Rush Radio Show, powered by Willis Automotive, with Travis Justice and Ross Peterson, Friday, April 17, 2026.
Iowa State is adding a Women’s Wrestling program. The Cyclones will start competing during the 2027-28 academic year. Alli St. John has been named the team’s Head Coach. She’s a two-time world champion and married to Cyclones men’s assistant coach, Derek St. John. The addition of women’s wrestling follows the athletic department’s decision to drop women’s gymnastics. The addition brings the athletics program back up to 18 sports. The decision is having a ripple effect in the Iowa State men’s wrestling program. Kevin Dresser is named the Director of Men’s and Women’s Wrestling. He’s been the men’s head coach since 2017. Assistant Brent Metcalf assumes the role of the Cyclones men’s head coach. A two-time national champion for Iowa, Metcalf has been on the Iowa State staff for the past nine years.
