AMES — After 24 seasons with the Cyclones, associate head coach Jodi Steyer announced her retirement Wednesday.

Before coaching Iowa State women’s basketball, Steyer spent seven seasons with Toledo, emphasizing the development of post players.

Although Steyer’s career ended in Ames, it began in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she spent four years as a player for the Rams. During her time, Steyer was a four-year starter and finished her playing career as Colorado State’s leading scorer with 1,598 points.

After graduating from Colorado State in 1989, Steyer made the jump to Toledo for her seven-year stint with the team. Six of which she served as an assistant to head coach Bill Fennelly.

While working with the Rockets, Steyer coached another familiar name at Iowa State, Latoja Schaben. In Schaben’s three seasons at Toledo, she recorded 1,466 points and 833 rebounds.

Steyer then took her talents to Iowa State to reunite with Fennelly in 2o02. While coaching the Cyclones, Steyer both shaped post players and three-point shooting.  At Iowa State, Steyer helped push Iowa State to 19 postseason appearances over her tenure.

Steyer coached some of the top Cyclones, including Addy Brown, Bridget Carleton, Ashley Joens and Emily Ryan, among many others.

“To our players, I have had the opportunity to work with the most amazing young women that inspired me daily,” Steyer wrote on social media. “My biggest joy is to call you true friends in our adult life because of our interactions and experiences together. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for being my “why”; our memories together are cherished.”
