AMES — Head coach T.J. Otzelberger added to his coaching staff Friday, announcing the hiring of Allan Hanson as an assistant coach.

“Allan Hanson will be an incredible resource for the young men in our program,” Otzelberger said in a release. “He’s a competitor, proven winner and someone who takes tremendous pride in student-athletes realizing their potential.”

Hanson joins Iowa State Cyclones after spending the 2025-26 season at Bradley Braves, where he helped guide the Braves to a 21-13 record, a second-place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference and an appearance in the NIT. Bradley also placed third at the ESPN Events Invitational.

Before Bradley, Hanson spent two seasons at Southern Utah and one season at Western Illinois under coach Rob Jeter. During those stops, he helped develop multiple all-conference players, including a first-team All-Summit League selection at Western Illinois.

“I am extremely excited to join T.J. Otzelberger’s staff at Iowa State,” Hanson said in a release. “I look forward to helping continue to build the success the program has had, both on and off the court.”

Hanson also served as boys basketball coach at Nicolet High School from 2016-22, compiling a 117-39 record. He led the program to the 2019 Wisconsin Division 2 state championship and a 27-1 finish that season.

A former player at Milwaukee Panthers, Hanson was a four-year letterwinner from 2004-08, appearing in 114 games with 57 starts. He later returned to Milwaukee as video coordinator in 2014-15 and director of basketball operations in 2015-16.

Hanson is another addition to Otzelberger’s staff with Wisconsin ties, a state Iowa State Cyclones has recruited heavily in recent years. Some notable players from Wisconsin include Tyrese Haliburton (Oshkosh North), Milan Momcilovic (Pewaukee) and Jamarion Batemon (Milwaukee Academy of Science).
