Iowa’s deep run in the NCAA Tournament has earned Ben McCollum a new contract.

McCollum, who led the Hawkeyes to a 24-13 record and the team’s first appearance in the Elite Eight since 1987 in his first season, signed a contract extension through 2032.

The University of Iowa on Monday announced the extension, which was first reported last week by ESPN.

“This extension reflects not only our recent success, but the strong alignment we have with Coach McCollum’s vision for Iowa basketball,” Iowa AD Beth Goetz said in a news release. “The culture he and his staff have developed, the way they represent our institution, and the connection created with the Hawkeye community have been incredibly meaningful.

“I have tremendous confidence in the direction we are headed under Ben’s leadership. We are excited to continue that momentum and pursue even greater success together.”

McCollum won four Division II national titles at Northwest Missouri State before spending one season at Drake. He led the Bulldogs to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before moving on to Iowa.

He made over $3 million in the first year of his six-year contract, according to records obtained by KCCI. That initial contract included an annual base salary of $500,000 with supplemental income of $2.85 million in 2025-26, for a total of $3.35 million. Other bonuses — including $75,000 for winning an NCAA Tournament game and $100,000 for a trip to the Sweet 16 — increased McCollum’s overall income. Compensation in that first Iowa contract were to increase each year, topping out at $4.1 million in the 2030-31 season.

Details of the new contract are not yet available.

“I am incredibly thankful to President Wilson and Beth Goetz for their continued belief in what we are building,” McCollum in the release. “We have a strong foundation in place, and we have great momentum moving forward. We are eager to build on our success and elevate this program at the highest level.”
