The Iowa Hawkeyes have added to their coaching staff with a hire that brings more experience than almost anyone in the football world.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has hired Tom Moore, the 87-year-old former NFL coach and Hawkeye alumnus, as a senior consultant to the head coach and offensive advisor.

“I have known Tom Moore for over a decade and am thrilled that he has agreed to join our program in an advisory role. Coach Moore has had a long and very successful career in football. He was a player at Iowa, coached at the collegiate level, and spent many years working alongside Hall of Fame coaches in the National Football League. I am grateful that a four-time Super Bowl champion will share his wisdom and perspectives with us – coaches and players,” Ferentz said of Moore.

Moore played for the Hawkeyes from 1958-1960 while attending college at the University of Iowa. He was a quarterback during his time in Iowa City. Upon graduation, he joined Iowa in a coaching capacity that kicked off a long and storied career.

In college, Moore spent time at Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Minnesota before making the move to professional football. During his time in the NFL, he spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and, most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As Iowa looks to develop Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown, they can draw upon Moore’s experience with former greats, including Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who won a Super Bowl during Moore’s tenure on their teams’ staffs.
