Head coach T.J. Otzelberger and the Iowa State men’s basketball program secured a major victory on the recruiting trail this week as Jack Kohnen, a four-star small forward in the 2027 class, committed to the Cyclones on Saturday.

Kohnen, a 6-foot-6 standout from Slinger High School in Wisconsin, is currently ranked as the No. 31 overall prospect in the nation by Rivals. His pledge marks a significant win for Iowa State, as he chose the Cyclones over a competitive list of finalists that included Iowa and Nebraska. The highly-coveted wing also held scholarship offers from several other high-major programs, including Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Indiana and Wake Forest.

During his junior campaign at Slinger, Kohnen was a statistical force, averaging 20.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. His performance was instrumental in leading the Slinger program to its first state tournament appearance since 1977.

Kohnen’s addition further cements Iowa State’s 2027 class as one of the premier groups in the country. He joins fellow Wisconsin native and Team Herro teammate Donovan Davis, a four-star forward ranked No. 32 nationally. The duo is paired with four-star shooting guard Josiah Harrington, the No. 49 overall prospect who committed to the Cyclones earlier in the cycle.
